Summary

Provide the analytical backbone of the broking proposition: price and structure reinsurance programmes, analyse cedant portfolios, quantify retentions and reinstatements, and turn data into placement advantage for clients and the production team.

Responsibilities

Pricing & Structuring

  • Price non-proportional programmes (burning cost, exposure rating, frequency/severity modelling) and evaluate proportional treaty terms (commissions, sliding scales, profit commissions, loss corridors).
  • Model alternative programme structures and retention levels; quantify risk transfer efficiency and cost of capital impact for cedants.
  • Support placement negotiations with technical pricing benchmarks and counter-analysis of reinsurer quotations.

Portfolio & Data Analytics

  • Analyse cedant portfolios: experience studies, large-loss analysis, exposure profiles, and accumulation/catastrophe monitoring.
  • Build and maintain pricing tools, rating models, and portfolio dashboards (Excel/Python/R); improve bordereaux data quality and automation.
  • Produce production and portfolio analytics for management and Board reporting.

Client & Regulatory Support

  • Prepare client-facing actuarial studies (reserving reviews, retention studies, programme optimisation) as a value-added broking service.
  • Support cedants and the company on regulatory capital and solvency-related analyses where required.
  • Present technical findings clearly to non-technical audiences (clients, underwriters, Board).

Education and Qualifications

Must-have

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or related quantitative field
  • Good progress toward Fellowship of a recognised actuarial body (IFoA, SOA, CAS, ASSA or equivalent) — minimum [●] exams passed
  • 4+ years of actuarial experience in general insurance/reinsurance (pricing, reserving, or capital)
  • Strong practical skills in Excel and at least one of Python, R, or SQL
  • Solid grasp of reinsurance structures: quota share, surplus, XoL, stop loss, reinstatement mechanics

Preferred

  • Qualified actuary (Fellow/Associate)
  • Experience in a broking or reinsurance environment specifically
  • Catastrophe modelling exposure; familiarity with African market data constraints

Characteristics

  • Analytical rigour with commercial pragmatism
  • Clear communication of technical results
  • Tool-building and automation mindset
  • Independence and intellectual honesty
